A home that lacks security can never become a dream home. A secure home can give you a lot of comfort and peace of mind. Therefore, ensuring the safety of your home is very important. Most common forms of security threat are from humans, though natural elements do also pose a threat to your home security. Here are some tips to tackle the security threat from humans and make you home a safe heaven!
Secure your Home
- First of all, check the points of access to your home. Use strong iron grills to protect the doors and windows.
- Strengthen the bolts and latches. Always use a strong, high quality locks.
- If you have windows very close to the doors, make sure that no one can reach the inner latches, through the windows. In that case, lock-up the door from inside.
- Install a peephole on the door. Also fix a safety chain. Do not open doors to strangers, without checking their genuineness.
- Keep the valuables in safety lockers.
- Insure your valuables.
- Photocopy important documents and keep them in a safe place.
- Check the background of servants. Register their details at the police station, if necessary.
- Erect a high fence around your home. But, do not build high compound walls, which help thieves to work unnoticed in your absence.
- Install burglar alarms.
- Try to be friendly or familiar with the neighbours.
Before you go away from your Home
- Even if you go to your neighbour’s house, lock up your home.
- Check that the doors are locked up and windows are shut properly.
- Do not discuss your plans in front of strangers. Stop the delivery of milk and newspaper before you leave, at least one day in advance so that thieves cannot get any clue about your absence.
- If you are going away for a short duration in the nights, keep the lights on and switch on the television. It will give the impression that some one is at home.
- When you go out for a long time, ask your neighbours to keep an eye on your home.
- If your house is open when you return, check whether anyone is in the home. If some strangers are in the home, lock up the door and call for help.
